Fortrun

Fortrun is the singing ship that carries Crow and the Ratatans toward the Goddess in the Everafter. It is your base of operations rather than a playable character: you can't pick Fortrun as your leader, but it travels with your army and shows up in every part of the story.

What is Fortrun in Ratatan?

Fortrun is a carefree ship that sings sea shanties. Its Kickstarter profile says it fell in love with the Goddess's song and set out to join her in the Everafter, but fear of the Chorus kept it wandering the Nowhere Sea instead.

On Planet Redo, where humanity no longer exists, Fortrun and the black bird Crow team up with the Ratatans of Ratatan Land to finish that trip. The ship is the transport, the home base and the reason the journey has a destination at all.

Fortrun is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita in Japanese. If you are looking for someone to actually play, the eight leaders are compared on the Ratatan tier list.

What does Fortrun do during missions?

Fortrun can follow your army into battle. It floats behind the Ratatan and the Cobun line while you fight, boss fights included.

It does not attack. The developers have talked about giving it artillery, but in the current game the fighting is up to you and your Cobun. Treat Fortrun as the place your army moves from, not as a damage source. For the Dekadon fight shown above, see Ratatan bosses.

How do you meet Fortrun?

You meet Fortrun right at the start. After you pick your Ratatan, Crow and the talking flying ship ask you to escort them to the Goddess in the Everafter, and Crow then walks you through the basics.

That opening also explains how your Ratatan woke up: Crow put a Medama into it. The Ratatan Medama page covers what those relics are and how they turn Chorus into Cobun.

What happens to Fortrun at the end?

Fortrun is there for the last conversation. The ship hovers over the final arena while Crow talks with the Goddess, and when Crow proposes working with the Cobun, the Ratatans shout "FORTRUN!" as they cheer him on.

The full scene, with what the Goddess reveals about the planet, is on the Ratatan ending page. It contains spoilers for Episode 4.

Can you customize Fortrun?

Not yet. In its October 16, 2026 update plans, the team listed Fortrun customization next to pets as an upcoming addition. Until it arrives, Fortrun looks the same for every player.
